The Law of the Garbage Truck

I want to ask you this...

How often do you let other people’s nonsense change your mood? Do you let a bad driver, rude waiter, curt boss, or an insensitive employee ruin your day? Unless you’re the Terminator, for an instant you’re probably set back on your heels. However, the mark of a successful person is how quickly that person can get back their focus on what’s important.

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us!, My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital! This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, "The Law of the Garbage Truck."

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment.
As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you.

Today as I was reading this I started thinking... Wow!! What really got me thinking about how often do I let Garbage Trucks run right over me? AND, how often do I then take their garbage and spread it onto other people: at work, at home, on the streets? Today I resolved, "I'm not going to do it anymore."

Today I've started to see Garbage Trucks everywhere. Just like the kid in the Sixth Sense movie said, "I see dead people," I can now say, "I see Garbage Trucks." :) I see the load they're carrying ... I see them coming to drop it off. And like the Taxi Driver, I don't make it a personal thing; I just smile, wave, wish them well, and I move on.

So remember...Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Repeat after me Smile, wave, and move on... Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so... Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Have a blessed, garbage-free day!

Love you!!

Just Three Things...

I had to take a deep breath, and try to slow down my brain. It’s been racing and trying to process this. I’m not one that’s usually at a loss for words. But last night I received a text that brought me to my knees. It was from Noelle, her breast cancer had spread this was the news I didn't want to hear.

If you want to read more about my Noelle and how's she doing go and check out her blog here http://noellemonteith.blogspot.com/ The moment I heard the news I knew in my heart my job for isn’t finished. Here’s a few things that we need to be doing.

1. Pray pray pray and pray some more for Noelle. I think it’s time for some good news to come her way.

2. Her shoes- well its time for them to hit the road again. Who wants to have them come and visit? They have been such a source of blessing as well as educating and bringing breast cancer awareness. They’ve gone to so many places. I’m working on a photo album for Noelle and there’s a journal too.

3. I had originally signed up to crew this year for the Breast Cancer 3 day. I really thought I had put in my time. Well scratch that Noelle’s shoes and I are walking again. I’m going to be walking, and sharing her story. I can only do this if you can help me. http://www.the3day.org/goto/deb09

I would really love it if I didn’t have to do a zillion fund raisers so that I can focus on visiting our lady and training. Or if I did fund raise it’s would be to help Noelle with her medical bills. But you all know me… I will if I have to.

So remember three things… pray, sightsee, and give.

Love you… thank you.
